  • Seniors ticket: General information

  • The Seniors ticket for Hesse is a personal annual ticket for all senior citizens above the age of 65 years. It is valid throughout Hesse and Mainz and is offered in two variants. The Seniors ticket for Hesse costs 365 euros and entitles you to travel by all means of local transport in Hesse on weekdays from 9.00 hours. On weekends and holidays as well in the Hessentag week, it is valid even before 9.00 hours. The Seniors Comfort ticket for Hesse at the price of 625 euros is valid for the whole day on weekdays. It entitles you to travel in 1st class, from 19.00 hours to 5.00 hours daily as well as for the whole day on weekends and holidays, wherein you can take along one adult and any number of children below the age of 15 years.

  • The offer is valid for everyone who is at least 65 years old.

  • The Seniors ticket for Hesse is valid for all buses, suburban trains (S-Bahn), trams, underground trains (U-Bahn), RegioTrams and regional trains in Hesse and Mainz. It can also be used for night buses and express bus lines.

    In order to make the switch to transport associations in other German Federal Land easier, important junctions outside Hesse can also be used using the Seniors ticket for Hesse.   • In principle, yes. Different people can be entered as the payer and the user in the order form. However, in each case, the proof of age must be provided for the user.

  • Costs & Buying

  • The Seniors ticket for Hesse is available at every RMV outlet marked with the e-Ticket logo, at NVV, through transport company VGG in the VRN zone as well as online through the RMV TicketShop or subscription centre of Kassel transport company (KVG). The order form can be downloaded.

  • A proof of age must be provided once before buying a Seniors ticket for Hesse. This can be done, for example, by producing an ID card or the passport. If you already have a chip card registered on "meinRMV (my RMV)" which includes the proof of entitlement for "65-plus", you can buy the Seniors ticket for Hesse without further verification.

  • The Seniors ticket for Hesse is designed as an annual ticket, and the binding purchase of the annual ticket is what makes its attractive price possible, among other things. Therefore, there is no monthly Seniors ticket for Hesse. However, it can be bought by means of subscription wherein the entire payment can be made all at once or then every month in twelve instalments.   • If the ticket has been bought on a subscription basis, it must be cancelled at the latest by the 10th of the last desired month of its validity. The cancellation must be done directly at the outlet or in writing to the company, who has issued the ticket.

    For users who have bought it by paying via cash, debit card or credit card and have taken the ticket with them immediately, the Seniors ticket for Hesse is only valid for one year. Therefore, it has no subscription feature and should also not be cancelled. Cancellation before the end of 12 months is also possible. The cancellation must be done at the latest by 10th of the last desired month of its validity. Cancellation of the subscription before the expiry of the first 12 months or cancellation of the annual ticket however leads to subsequent billing. Twice the monthly price is calculated for every month in which the ticket was used. If a subscription is cancelled after the expiry of the first 12 months, there is no subsequent billing. The customer only pays for the months in which he/she has used the ticket.

  • The Seniors ticket for Hesse is available on subscription basis. If the Seniors ticket for Hesse is bought without subscription, it automatically expires after one year. It must be bought again to continue its validity for another year.

  • In the comfort version of the Senior citizen ticket for Hesse, it is possible to travel along with one adult and any number of children under 15 years in the evenings from 19.00 hours onwards and on the weekend. The person need not be a family member. No extra persons can be taken along using this version of the Senior citizen ticket for Hesse for 365 euros.

  • Anyone wishing to travel beyond their validity area (refer to the Overview map of the range of validity (PDF)) with a Seniors ticket for Hesse needs a valid ticket. RMV tickets are generally valid from the last station in the transport network area till the borders of the transport network area (even if there is no station). Whether a ticket from the last station in the RMV area onwards is required for the respective journey however depends on the respective tariff of the neighbouring area. Please obtain information about this before departure.

  • The Senior citizen ticket for Hesse is designed as an annual ticket, the binding purchase of which is what makes its attractive price possible in the first place, among other things. A reimbursement of the fare shall take place for disability-related illnesses lasting for more than 15 consecutive days and for the corresponding duration of recuperation. The incapacity to travel must be proven by means of a certificate of a doctor, hospital or health insurance.

    No processing fee shall be levied in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) for the partial reimbursement.

    In case of early cancellation within the first 12-month period, twice the monthly price shall hence be billed per used month, with the maximum amount not exceeding the annual price. In case of early cancellation after the expiry of the first 12-month period, 1/12 of the annual ticket price shall be billed for each completely used month. The customer shall then only pay for the months in which he/she has travelled. It must be cancelled at the latest by the 10th of the last desired month of its validity. The cancellation must be done directly at an outlet or in writing to the company, which has issued the ticket.

  • Validity of the Seniors ticket for Hesse

  • Basically, hailed shared taxis and dial-a-bus services are part of the means of transport in the transport network area and can thus be used without any extra charge using the Senior citizen ticket for Hesse. However, some companies levy extra charges for enhanced comfort (such as getting a ride until the front door). If extra charges are levied for hailed shared taxis, these shall need to be paid even for journeys with the Senior citizen ticket for Hesse.

  • With the Senior citizen comfort ticket for Hesse, you need not pay extra charges for the airliner.
