TICKET SALES
RMV ticket machines - How does the machine work?
Each RMV ticket machine will supply you with single and day tickets (for adults and children), group day tickets, supplementary tickets and renewal tickets for the time-limited tickets as well as special local offers.
Within the RMV network there are different kinds of ticket machine. We have largely standardised the ticket machines to make it easier for you to use them.
If the automatic ticket machines are not working, please report the fault to the operator of the machine, always giving the ticket machine number. The name of the operator and the telephone number of the person to call can be found under the list of destinations on the information panel.
Ticket machines with a user display and 10-digit keypad
The majority of RMV ticket machines are equipped with a user display and 10-digit keypad to guide you through ticket purchase. And this is how it works: simply follow the instructions on the user screen. Please select your destination from the directory. Use the 10-digit keypad to enter the 2 or 4 digit destination number ("destination no.") listed to the left of the destination. Then press the button in the key block under the keypad for the appropriate ticket (adult or child). If a number of routes appear, select the route number you want ("route no.") using the keypad. Check the details on the screen (destination number, selected ticket) and pay the amount displayed. Take your ticket and any change from the tray.
Simply press a button to select a different screen language (English, French, Italian, Spanish or Turkish). These machines will also accept payment in banknotes, specifically 5,-, 10,-, 20,- und 50,-Euro. The screen will display the banknotes accepted. This will depend on the fare amount and the change available. Tip: Many machines will also allow you to pay cashlessly with a credit/debit card.

Ticket machines with a touchscreen monitor
Ticket machines operated by Hessische Landesbahn and HEAG in Darmstadt are equipped with a touchscreen monitor with touch-sensitive display. Here’s what to do: simply follow the instructions on the user screen. With a touchscreen ticket machine, there are several different ways of selecting a ticket. You can do so by: pressing one of the shortcut keys, entering the name of the place (towns, districts, localities, border stops), entering a known two-digit or four-digit destination number.
Select the preferred ticket type. If there are several possible routes across different tariff zones, select your preferred route. Check the details shown on the screen and then pay the amount indicated. Take your ticket and any change from the tray.
You can change the user instructions shown on the screen into different languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish and Turkish) just by touching the screen. You can pay at the ticket machines with banknotes to the value of EUR 5, 10, 20 and 50. The display of the machine will indicate which banknotes are accepted; this will depend on the actual price of the ticket and the change that is inside the machine. The possible means of cashless payment will also be indicated in the payment screen on the display. One more thing: the shortcut keys are constantly being updated. The destinations that customers at that particular location select the most frequently are also shown on the shortcut keys.

Ticket machines with an alphabetical price category index
Many older ticket machines in the Darmstadt-Dieburg area do not offer the whole range of tickets. An alphabetical list that covers most destinations within the RMV network is attached to these machines. The relevant price category must be indicated before the actual destination. Select your destination, note the price category in front of it and then press the corresponding price category key to obtain your ticket (e.g. adult single, price category 3).
