Multi-functional area

The multi-functional area is indicated by a symbol on the entrance doors. In the multi-functional area of the trains and buses, you will find space for wheelchairs, prams, rollators, bicycles and luggage. Wheelchair users, prams and rollators have priority over bicycles or luggage. Especially on Mondays to Fridays in the heavily used commuter buses, school buses and trains, you should therefore - if possible - avoid taking bikes with you. In the event that the multi-functional area is ever occupied, we kindly ask you to seek agreement among yourselves. In case of any doubt, let the driving personnel decide.

Wheelchair users should situate their wheelchairs against the impact plate and - if available - use the seat belts. For a hassle-free exit, please use the stroller or wheelchair button, which is usually located in the area of the vehicle wall. The doors will then remain open longer and the driver will check whether you need help.

Hold request button/ stop button

In the buses and sometimes in other means of transport, there are red push buttons with the word "Stop" and often blue push buttons with a pram or wheelchair symbol. These buttons can be operated by the passenger, to inform the driver that the passengers wish to get off. After the stop request has been triggered, it also appears on the display in the passenger compartment with the visual indication "Car stop". The stop buttons are usually located on the high-contrast handrails, in the area of the seats for persons with restricted mobility use, on the vehicle wall and on the seats behind the driver.

The red button signals a general wish to stop to the driver, the blue button signals the entry or exit of a traveller with restricted mobility (wheelchair users, but also passengers with a walker, pram or bulky luggage). The driver then pays particular attention to the entry and exit situation, lowers the vehicle if necessary, or provides assistance in operating the folding ramp. Blue buttons are usually located inside the vehicle in the area of the multi-functional area and partly outside, in the area of the entrance to the multi-functional area. They are positioned so that they can also be easily operated by wheelchair users, for example. In some cases, stop and door opening buttons are combined, i.e. the door opens automatically in addition to the exit request.

Push buttons for prams or wheelchairs

After pressing the button, the driver pays particular attention to the doors and whether help is needed to get in or out. Pressing this button keeps the doors open longer. The button can be used by anyone who needs more time. For example, the button is located on the right when getting in or on the door marked in yellow, on the left of the door when getting out and in the multi-functional area on the vehicle wall.
