Questions and answers

The Deutschland-Ticket is a personal subscription that allows you to travel on all local public transport throughout Germany. It is valid in 2nd class on local and regional trains (RE, IRE, RB, S-Bahn). It is not valid on DB long-distance trains (IC, EC, ICE, ECE) or on other providers such as FlixTrain.

The Deutschland-Ticket costs €58.00 per month. The price will increase to €63.00 in January 2026.

With the D-Ticket, you can use the following modes of transport:

  • Regional trains (RE, IRE, RB, S-Bahn) in 2nd class throughout Germany Buses, trams, and subways operated by transport associations, state fare companies, or transport companies throughout Germany
  • Ferries, if they are part of the transport association's fare system
  • Where transport association fares also apply in neighboring countries, you can also use the Germany Ticket

It is not valid on long-distance trains operated by Deutsche Bahn (e.g., InterCity, ICE, EC) or other train/long-distance bus operators (e.g., FlixTrain/FlixBus).

Within the RMV transport association area: For the AirLiner from Darmstadt to Frankfurt Airport, you must pay a surcharge of €3.80. Surcharge tickets are available from the train driver, at RMV ticket offices operated by HEAG mobilo, and in the HEAG mobilo app.

Here's how you can get the D-Ticket:

  • In RMVgo: As a mobile ticket via the RMVgo app.
  • In the RMV Ticket Shop: Online via the RMV-TicketShop by the 20th of the month for validity to begin the following month.
  • In person: With an order form at an RMV sales point. Submit the order form by the 10th of the month to use the ticket the following month.

The Deutschland-Ticket is only available as a personal subscription with monthly debit.

Yes, you can purchase a supplementary ticket for first class travel within the RMV area.

Outside the RMV area, the fare regulations of the respective transport associations apply.

Within the RMV, you cannot purchase an IC supplement to a D-Ticket. Information on the regulation can be found in the terms and conditions of carriage of Deutsche Bahn.

To purchase a Deutschland-Ticket, you must be at least 18 years old.

As a parent, you can purchase a Germany Ticket for your child:

  • Online in the RMV-TicketShop
  • In person with an order form at an RMV sales point
  • In RMVgo: Use your own account and enter your child's name in the "Ticket Holder" field when purchasing. The subscription will be saved on the smartphone you use to complete the purchase. If your child has their own smartphone, log in to it with your account and complete the purchase directly on that smartphone. Your account must remain logged in on your child's smartphone for continued use of the subscription.

This depends on whether you already have a chip card:

  • If you already have a chip card and provided your chip card number when ordering: You will receive a notification as soon as your eTicket is ready. You can then update your chip card at a ticket machine.
  • If you do not yet have a chip card: We will send you a new chip card by mail well before its validity begins. The eTicket will already be stored on it.

No credit check is performed when purchasing a D-ticket.

However, when purchasing from the RMV-TicketShop or RMVgo, a credit check is carried out by Arvato. Arvato uses, among other things:

  • Data from public debt registers and insolvency notices
  • Information on outstanding debts, e.g., from debt collection proceedings
  • Information from contractual partners and address service providers

When purchasing at an RMV sales point, the respective transport company decides whether a credit check is performed.

When purchasing your D-Ticket, you must choose whether you want to use it in RMVgo or as an eTicket on a chip card. Switching or transferring your subscription is not possible.

If you still wish to switch, you must first cancel your existing subscription and then purchase a new one in your desired format. Without prior cancellation, you will have two active subscriptions simultaneously.

If your ticket is not visible under "My Tickets," please check the following:

  • Log out and log back in: In RMVgo, go to "More" and log out and back in under "My Account."
  • Internet connection: Switch between "All Tickets" and "My Tickets." If you have a poor connection, briefly activating and then deactivating airplane mode often helps.
  • Outstanding payment: Your meinRMV account will be blocked if you have outstanding invoices. In this case, renewing your D-ticket is not possible. Please pay the outstanding amount first. You will find all the details in the payment reminder/dunning email. After payment is received, your account will be unlocked, and you will be notified by email. You can then purchase a new D-ticket in RMVgo.
  • New customer shortly before the end of the month: If you purchase by direct debit shortly before the end of the month, a waiting period may apply. In this case, please use the RMV service portal.

If the ticket is still missing, please contact us via the RMV-Serviceportal.

Please note: An eTicket on the chip card will not be displayed in RMVgo.

You can cancel your Deutschland-Ticket (D-Ticket) according to the fare regulations up to the 10th of each month, effective at the end of that month. Returns are not possible after the ticket's validity period has begun. Here's how to cancel your D-Ticket:

The statutory passenger rights in rail transport continue to apply.

Within the RMV area, you can take your bicycle and your dog with you free of charge.

Children under 6 years of age also travel free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Children aged 6 and older require their own ticket.
