FAQ Deutschland-Ticket

  • The Deutschland-Ticket is a personal subscription that allows you to travel on all local public transport throughout Germany. It is valid in 2nd class on local and regional trains (RE, IRE, RB, S-Bahn). It is not valid on DB long-distance trains (IC, EC, ICE, ECE) or on other providers such as FlixTrain.

    The Deutschland-Ticket costs €63.00 per month. 

  • You can pay for the Deutschland-Ticket by SEPA direct debit or credit card, depending on the purchase method:

    • In the RMVgo app: Payment by credit card or direct debit is possible. The ticket can be purchased with immediate validity.

    • Online in the RMV-TicketShop: Payment by SEPA direct debit or credit card. If you order by the 20th of a month, the ticket is valid from the 1st of the following month.

    • Using an order form by post or at an RMV sales outlet: Payment by SEPA direct debit with monthly billing. Submit the order form by the 10th of a month for the following month. The ticket will be sent by post.

    • Digital order form from Transdev: Payment by SEPA direct debit. Complete the form online—no printout required.

    • This also applies to the discounted Deutschland-Ticket with the Hessenpass mobil.

    • At DB Travel Centres: Payment is only possible by direct debit. Only submission of the order form is required.

    Important: Cash payment at ticket machines, on buses, or via PayPal is not possible.

  • In order to make a purchase, you need to use the latest version of RMVgo. Please update the app beforehand, if you have not already done so. The Deutschland-Ticket is available for the current and the following month. The Deutschland-Ticket can be purchased in RMVgo app via the connection information or from the "All tickets" section. The Deutschland-Ticket can currently be purchased using the credit card. The payment method can be saved in your myRMV profile in the RMV-HandyTicket settings.

    The discounted Deutschland-Ticket with Hessenpass mobil is only available as an eTicket on the smart card and can be purchased online via the RMV-TicketShop or using the order form.

  • No, a Schufa check is not carried out when purchasing a Deutschland-Ticket. When purchasing in RMV-TicketShop and RMVgo, a credit check is carried out by the company Arvato. The data checked comes from official insolvency publications and debtor lists kept by central enforcement courts. In addition, there is information from ICD's contractual partners about non-contractual payment behavior, based on judicial and extrajudicial collection measures. Arvato also has personal data from inquiries from contractual partners and data from address service providers. 
    When the Deutschland-Ticket is purchased at a sales outlet, the check depends on the decision of the respective company.

  • You can transfer your Deutschland-Ticket to another device up to three times per month. To do this, you must be logged in with the same meinRMV account on both devices.

    Here’s how in RMVgo: Go to “Tickets”, select the Deutschland-Ticket (red exclamation mark), then tap “Transfer to this device”.

    Please note: It is not possible to transfer the ticket to another meinRMV account.

  • On the first day of validity, your Deutschland-Ticket is automatically activated in the app. The color changes from grey to blue. The QR code will then appear.

  • No, the Deutschland-Ticket is only available as a personal subscription with monthly billing.

  • Yes, you can still purchase the Deutschland-Ticket in RMVgo during the current month.

    The ticket always costs the full monthly price, but it can still be worthwhile.
    Important: Cancellation at the end of the month is only possible until the 10th of that month. If you purchase the ticket after the 10th, you can only cancel it for the following month.

    Note: In RMVgo, it is not possible to purchase the ticket as a chip card—only as a digital ticket.

  • No. It is only available as a subscription, which can be cancelled monthly at the end of each month.

    Important: Cancellation at the end of the month is only possible until the 10th of that month. If you purchase the ticket after the 10th, you can only cancel it for the following month.

  • No, the Deutschland-Ticket is also available as an eTicket on a chip card in credit card format.

  • Yes, you can cancel your Deutschland-Ticket before the start date. A processing fee of €5 applies in accordance with Section 9 (11) of the Common Conditions of Carriage.

    • As an eTicket on a chip card: Contact your contractual partner directly. You can find them in your contract documents. Contact details are available at www.rmv.de under Service, then “Contact” and “Local contacts”. If you purchased the ticket in the RMV TicketShop, please use our service portal.
    • As an RMV mobile ticket in the RMVgo app: Open the app and go to “Tickets”, then “My tickets”. Select your ticket, then go to “Ticket options” (three dots) and choose “Cancel ticket”.

    Once the ticket has become valid, cancellation is no longer possible.

  • Yes, the Deutschland-Ticket can be loaded onto an existing chip card as an eTicket.

  • Yes, even if you start later in the month, you still pay the full price for the entire month.

    Important: Cancellation at the end of the month is only possible up until the 10th of that month. If you purchase the ticket after the 10th, you will only be able to cancel it effective the end of the following month.

  • Yes. If you live in Hesse and receive certain social benefits, you can get the discounted Deutschlandticket with the Hessenpass mobil. For more information, see RMV Hessenpass mobil.

  • Yes, the Deutschland-Ticket is also available as a Jobticket at uniform conditions throughout Germany.

  • Yes, if you are the owner of an Annual Pass (without a subscription) and would like to change to the Deutschland-Ticket, you must cancel your Annual Pass with the company from which you purchased the Annual Pass. You will not be charged a price disadvantage if you can prove that you have taken out a Deutschland-Ticket subscription when you cancel your Annual Pass early or if you order the Deutschland-Ticket directly.

  • A switch to the Deutschlandticket is possible within the applicable deadlines without any financial disadvantages.

  • No. The student union’s contract with the RMV remains valid.

  • No, other RMV tickets are not automatically valid nationwide. All existing RMV tickets retain their usual validity.

  • No. The Deutschland-Ticket is always valid for one person. Accompanied children up to the age of 6 travel for free.

  • No, the Deutschland ticket is not transferable. It is issued to a specific person and can only be used by that person. During a ticket inspection, you must present a valid official photo ID to verify that you are the authorized user.

  • In the RMV area, you may take dogs and bicycles with you free of charge.
    Children under six travel free of charge.

    You cannot take other persons aged 6 and over with you free of charge; they require their own ticket.

    Important: Outside the RMV area, the rules for taking passengers, dogs, or bicycles are determined by the respective transport associations, state tariff organizations, or transport companies. Please check their conditions before your journey.

  • Children under the age of 6 travel free of charge on public transport when accompanied and do not require a Deutschland ticket. Children aged 6 and over must have their own ticket.

  • With the Deutschland ticket, you can use the following modes of transport nationwide:

    • Regional trains (RE, IRE, RB, S-Bahn) in 2nd class

    • Buses, trams, and underground trains in all transport networks

    • Ferries, if they are part of a transport network

    • Cross-border routes near Germany, if they are included in the network fare

    The ticket is not valid:

    • On long-distance services (ICE, IC, EC)

    • With other long-distance providers (e.g. FlixTrain, FlixBus)

    Special rule in the RMV area: For the AirLiner from Darmstadt to Frankfurt Airport, you need to pay a surcharge of €3.80. The surcharge ticket is available from the driver, at RMV sales outlets of HEAG mobilo, or in the HEAG mobilo app.

  • The Deutschland ticket is a monthly subscription that can be cancelled at any time. As an eTicket on a chip card, it always starts on the first day of a month. As an RMV mobile ticket in RMVgo, it can be purchased for the current month.

    The subscription is concluded for an indefinite period and can be cancelled on a monthly basis.

    Cancellation must be made by the 10th of a month at the latest for the ticket to end at the end of that month.

    If you have your ticket as an eTicket on a chip card, please direct your cancellation to your contractual partner, which you can find in your contract documents. If you purchased the ticket via the RMV TicketShop, you can submit your cancellation online using the cancellation form. If you have an RMV mobile ticket via RMVgo, you can cancel it directly in the app.

    After cancellation, the ticket remains valid until the end of service on the last day of the month, at the latest until 3:00 a.m. the following day.

  • With the Deutschland ticket, you can use RMV on-demand shuttles at a reduced rate. The base fare is waived; you only need to pay a comfort surcharge and a per-kilometer price.

    To select the reduced fare in the RMV OnDemand app, proceed as follows: On the home screen, tap the main menu in the top left and activate the switch next to “RMV season ticket” under “Passenger settings.” You can find the exact prices from the respective project partners (see “Where can I use the on-demand shuttle?”).

  • The purchase of a supplementary ticket for the transition to 1st class for the Deutschland-Ticket is possible according to the tariff regulations of the respective associations. In the RMV, a supplement to 1st class can only be purchased for journeys within the RMV area.

  • Yes. The statutory passenger rights in rail traffic continue to apply.
